Replace Silver-Mercury Fillings With White Tooth
Fillings At Gary B Wiele DDS
Many
people in the St. Louis area have had silver-mercury fillings placed
into their teeth because they had “cavities.” These silver-mercury
fillings are called amalgams. Amalgam fills the space where the decay
in the tooth has been removed. However, over time,
the amalgam corrodes, which blackens the silver. The corrosion creates
leakage channels which can allow bacteria to work underneath the filling
and decay the tooth again. This is easily seen as soon as the patient
opens his or her mouth, causing unwanted embarrassment for the patient;
not to mention the possibility of recurrent decay.
At Gary B Wiele DDS we can provide you with
composite fillings that are made of a plastic-porcelain like material
that actually bonds to the tooth for a tight seal. They are stronger
and stain resistant, and are color-matched to the natural tooth, making
them “invisible.”
Composite fillings do not have the sensitivity to
cold that is often associated with silver-mercury amalgam fillings,
because they act as insulators instead of conducting the cold to the
center of the tooth.
In fact, they work so well that Dr. Wiele has not placed a
silver-mercury amalgam filling in over fourteen(14) years.
